Old Testament Stories.....

 

  • Sarah & Hagar- One is the honored wife of Abraham and mother of Israel, the other is slave to Sarah and mother of the Arab world. Each is graced and protected by God. This story of what can happen when we take God's plan in our own hands. (Gen. 15-18 & 21:1-21)

 

  • Miriam- Sister of Moses and Aaron, she is prophetess of Israel who leads the women of Israel in praise of God. Sibling rivalry is Miriam's down fall. (Ex. 2:1-10, Ex. 15:19-21, Num. 12 20:1-2, Deut. 21:8-9, 1 Chron. 6:1-3, Micah 6:3-4)

 

  • Rahab- One time harlot who becomes an Israelite convert and through courage changes her life. (Jos. 2:1-24, 6:1-2, 15-25, Matt. 1:5)

 

  • Deborah- Woman of keen mind, great courage and splendid faith who is the only woman chosen by God to be a judge of Israel. (Judges 4&5)

 

  • Naomi- Wife and mother who lost everything. She is homesick, scared and trying not to be bitter. (Book of Ruth)

 

  • Ruth- A young woman who becomes a widow. With courage she finds a new life for herself and her mother-in-law. (Book of Ruth)

 

  • Hannah- Suffers the agony of being childless. She is an example of persistence in prayer. (1 Sam. 1-2:21)

 

  • Abigail- Wife of a wealth, bad tempered man, who through her courage and humility, saves her household from dealth. (1 Sam. 25:1-42 & 27:1-4, II Sam. 2:1-4, 3:2-3, 1 Chron. 3:1)

 

  • Bathsheba- Violated by a powerful king, she struggles with forgiveness and lose. (II Sam. 11:1-27, 12:1-24, Psalm 51, 1 Chron. 3:5)

 

  • Esther- Gentle woman who risks her own life to save her people from annihilation. (Book of Esther)

 

New Testament Stories.....

 

  • Elizabeth- Wife of Zachariah, cousin of Mary, servant of God, who gives birth in a miraculous way in her old age. (Luke 1:5-25, 39-80)

 

  • Woman of Samaria- An outcast among her own people, she meets Jesus at Jacob's Well. He offers her living water and changes her life. (John 4:1-42)

 

  • Woman with the Hemorrhage- Sick for twelve years, she relies on Jesus as her last hope for a cure. (Mark 5:25-34, Luke 8:43-48)

 

  • Syro-Phoenician Woman- A foreigner who, with great persistance, receives healing for her daughter. (Matt. 15:21-28, Mark 7:24-30)

 

  • Martha & Mary of Bethany- Sisters who experience the joy of seeing their brother brought back to life by Jesus. (Luke 10:38-42, John 11:1-45, 12:1-8)

 

  • Mary of Magdala- Devoted follower of Jesus who witnesses His ministry, His death, and His resurrection. (Luke 8:1-3, John 19:25, 20:1-18, Mark 15:40-41, 47, 16:1-11, Matt. 27:55-56, 61, 28:1-10, Luke 23:49, 55-56, 24:1-11)

 

  • Dorcas (Tabitha)- Servant of the Lord, disciple, and seamstress whose miracle helps inspire the newly former Christian Church. (Acts 9:36-42)

 

  • Lydia- Successful business woman and convert of the Apostle Paul, who uses her wealth and influence to establish the Church at Philippi. (Acts 16:11-40)

 

  • Priscilla (Prisca)- Wife of Aquila and close friend of the Apostle Paul, who uses her energy and hospitality to create several church communities in the new Christian Church. (Acts 18:1-3, 18-19, 24-28, 1Cor. 16:19, Rom. 16:3-5, II Tim. 4:19)
