The Women of the Bible, Alive Story
By Gloria Rink, Founder & Director
I would like to tell you a little of the history of this dynamic and meaningful ministry.
I began writing the stories of women of the Bible in 1998. Two things were very important
to me in writing these stories; first that they be faithful to Biblical text; second that each
story have emotions, thus bringing the story alive. After nine months of critique and many
revisions, I pronounced the stories complete. I gathered a few very brave women together
to form the traveling troupe of Women of the Bible Alive. God has had wonderful plans for
this ministry. We have now completed 12 seasons. We have presented our stories 350 times
for groups of all denominations. Our troupe has traveled to 6 states on the East coast as
well as many presentations all over Maryland, our home state.
Women of the Bible, Alive is a not for profit organization. We ask for a free will offering
to cover our expenses. All profit at the end of the year is donated to charity. We have
donated more than $42,000.00 to different women and children's charities.
Women of the Bible, Alive is a ministry of 17 storytellers. We spread the Good News of
Jesus Christ 6 stories at a time in an hour presentation ending with a prayer experience.
Women of the Bible, Alive offers presentations for children and teens as well as our adult
presentation. Retreats are offered, full or half day. Bible Time Meals with storytelling along
with a presentation of the Rosary for Catholic groups is also available. It is important to us
that our audience members find time to read and meditate on the stories we tell, therefore
we provide a program containing the location in the Bible of each of our 18 stories.
Having had 30 years experience in religious education. I am now retired as Director of
Religious Education at St. Joseph's Monastery Parish in Baltimore, Maryland, a position I
held for 15 years. I became a convert to the Roman Catholic faith in 1985. Having taught
in both Protestant and Catholic Religious Education programs, I know the power of a story
in teaching the love and faithfulness of God. For the past 15 years, I have served as director
of Women of the Bible, Alive. We strive to bring the women of the Old and New Testament
to life for our audiences. We know that God's love for His women, yesterday as well as today
has not changed. The stories we tell are just as relevant to our lives today as they were
2000 or 5000 years ago.
The women of Women of the Bible, Alive are always delighted by the many ways
God shows His presence and care of this ministry. We share stories in hopes that others
will get in touch with their own story of God working in their life and share too.
I will work with you to create a memorable, prayerful and spiritual experience for
your group, be it a presentation for adults, children, teens, or a retreat. Each
presentation is tailored to the individual group no matter what size.
Please contact me and we can share ideas.
